From what I’ve seen on this subreddit, most vegans are vegan because they care about the animals and/or the environment. Having meat on the same grill does not at all mean you’re contributing to the suffering of animals or the depletion of the environment, I’ve been trying to figure out a reason why people wouldn’t like this, but can’t think of anything.
Of course I understand if you find the taste of meat repulsive and can’t risk the flavour spreading, but apart from that?
Theoretically, it shouldn’t matter (unless you’re specifically frying it to make it taste meaty), but there’s a significant “ick” element. For example, I believe that most omnivores wouldn’t want to consume anything that has been fried in human fat.
Animal products disgust me now, and even if the bacon grease is free, I don’t want to eat them.
That’s why I stopped buying french fries because everything fried shares the same oil.
Some vegans even advise roommates to buy their own cookware because they don’t want their household pots and pans to be used to prepare animal products. In my opinion, this is absurd as detergent and water will take care of any damage to the pans, unless they are cast iron.
It doesn’t matter if I bought it or am personally supporting it or not; I don’t enjoy it because of the horrible flavor and I don’t want to consume cruelty. Even though I didn’t pay for the chicken, I wouldn’t eat it if it appeared out of nowhere since it is cruelty. So why would I tolerate cross-contamination?
I wholeheartedly concur with this. Even though cross-contamination has made me sick, it doesn’t concern me in the slightest. I will not put up with a minimal wage server or cook at a restaurant just because I have a personal preference.
Would you feel comfortable dining at a restaurant that specialized in dog meat and having your meal prepared using the same tools? In my opinion, entering an omni restaurant is really inconsiderate to the animals I’m working to save; I don’t want to be in the vicinity of their cooked meat and pretend that there’s nothing wrong with it. I don’t want the oils and fats of the animals I’m trying to protect to seep into my diet.
I oppose normalizing what is happening and do not support it.
Could a vegan enjoy a picnic in a meat processing plant? This is what we are fighting against; it is disrespectful.
Couldn’t this make me sick if I haven’t had any meat in years? My stomach is really sensitive. Firstly, I’m vegan for health reasons. I find it absurd to argue that just because there is less animal suffering, this is acceptable. So I can eat a full perfectly cooked chicken that someone is about to put away? I would have nothing to do with it; it would be killed, cooked, and thrown away. It doesn’t matter if I eat it, is that right? Gross, disgusting, no! I do not wish to consume any animal products. My meal will get some from cooking on the same surface. Thank you, but no!
