I was having a conversation with my aunt about why people refuse to eat at vegan restaurants. she said she doesn’t want to “sit there and watch me eat vegan food when she can’t have anything.” i think this is ridiculous. nobody needs to eat meat at every meal. everybody can eat at a vegan restaurant. you don’t have to be vegan. i said she already eats a lot of vegan food, and sometimes her own home cooked meals are fully vegan (accidentally). she doesn’t care. she refuses to go to a vegan restaurant. this is something i have noticed with a lot of meat eaters. why is that? even before i was vegan i enjoyed eating vegan meals, and i never felt like i couldn’t eat at a vegan restaurant lol.
this is just a question, btw. i’m not forcing anyone to eat at vegan restaurants.
Please understand that this is because they believe it to be a cult. that it’s not ‘the way people do things’. The majority of people detest change, and when it comes to food and the customs around it, they become really upset and behave like three-year-olds.
Turkish women own and operate the coffee shop in my neighborhood. She notes on the indications that many Turkish delights are in fact vegan. She mentioned that after something appears really good, some people decide they no longer want it since it’s vegan. Individuals are insane.
A few years back, I prepared a vegan cherry delight for a large family get-together. It has a few components that are challenging to veganize. Since I’m the only vegan in my family and no one else has any food allergies, I didn’t mark it or do anything else. However, my uncle could not stop raving about how wonderful it was. I therefore said something like, "Thank you! I had a hard time figuring out how to turn it vegan. And when he found out it didn’t include dairy, his perspective quickly changed, lol. Definitely one of my favorite times to bake vegan food.
Here, not vegan I’ve been spending a few days quietly browsing your sub. It’s partly, I believe, because non-vegans mistake veganism for being false. Vegan burgers contain artificial meat, while vegan cheese is false cheese. It might be daunting to eat at an all-vegan restaurant since you never know what is “real” food and what is just food-shame. Even though it’s a vegan apple, it’s still just an apple if I eat one. On the other hand, if it is marketed as a vegan apple, it suggests that it isn’t a real apple but has been altered to taste like one. Many times, it stems from a lack of comprehension and an unwillingness to make an effort to understand.
Sincerely, I’ve never encountered someone like that. My friends and family are omnivores, and they have never objected to my vegan meals or to dining at vegan establishments. To die on such a strange hill is plain absurd.
I believe that those who strive to take away their routine are the ones who have indoctrinated others to despise the term “vegan.” Perhaps as a result of their dislike of having their behavior called out. Who knows?
The idea that all vegan food is gross and boring is ridiculous. Much of what omnivores eat is completely vegan, they’re just used to slathering it with animal bi-products. They get personally disturbed when they can’t eat meat, like it’s going to kill them to have even a single meal without. It’s because they’ve made that part of their identity. And if they did experiment even more, I think they would find plenty of vegan meals they enjoy.
Put it this way, I asked an old friend if they could have a vegan burger that tasted the same, would they have that, and they said, no, they would have the meat". It’s the same narrow obsession of "this meal is good, but it would be better with meat’.
I don’t really understand this mindset either because I love vegan milks, creams, custards, ice cream, and even some meat substitutes just as much as the real thing.
Since I enjoy vegan milks, creams, custards, ice cream, and even some meat alternatives just as much as the actual thing, I don’t really get this mentality either.
It’s absurd because, in my experience, vegan eateries nearly always have gluten-free, soy-free, and allergy-free options. So accomodating
Man, some folks are simply strange. That’s crazy. At first, I encountered some opposition, but it passed quickly. I’m happy that kind of crap isn’t something I have to deal with.
