What's a good non-dairy substitute for half and half in eggnog?

I’m trying to make a friend’s eggnog recipe, but I need a non-dairy alternative for half and half. I don’t live in the US, so I would appreciate suggestions that don’t rely on specific brands. Thanks!

You could try using vegan condensed milk. That might work well for the creaminess you’re looking for.

Coconut milk has a texture that’s pretty similar to regular milk, so it might be a good option to try.

I like the idea of using a 50/50 mix of coconut and oat milk. It balances out the texture and flavor nicely.

Coconut milk could work really well here.

I also recommend coconut milk. I had a vegan eggnog made with a blend of coconut milk and other plant-based milks, and it was amazing. The coconut milk gave it a rich and creamy taste, which was perfect for eggnog.

Are you trying to make this vegan? If you share the recipe, I can offer more targeted suggestions.

Coconut milk really is the best substitute here.

Oat milk works, or even better, macadamia nut milk if you can find it.

Half and half is usually a mix of milk and cream, so you could just use a mix of your favorite non-dairy milk and a non-dairy cream.

Eggnog tends to be very dairy-heavy. If you want a vegan version, I would suggest using a dedicated vegan recipe. Replacing ingredients in a regular recipe might not always work well.

Sweetened condensed oat milk is another option to consider.

If you have access to Elmlea, that could work well. You could mix it with a bit of oat milk to dilute it slightly.

If you can get vegan cream, that would be a good substitute. Half and half is just half cream and half milk.

Blending a banana with a bit of water could work, though it might change the flavor a bit.
