What simple sauces can I try for steamed veggies?

I made some steamed sweet potatoes, zucchini, chickpeas, and spinach with seasoning and fresh lemon juice. I feel like it could use a sauce on top. Any ideas for something super simple? I’m disabled, so the easier the better. No mayo or ranch stuff please (I just don’t like it).

When I want something quick, I melt vegan butter, add some garlic powder, and a pinch of salt. It makes everything taste so much better.

Sounds yummy, but garlic powder doesn’t agree with me at all! :grimacing:

@Zeph
You could try melting butter and adding whatever spices you like! How about lemon, rosemary, or thyme? What flavors do you like?

Fresh garlic would work for me, and I like those herbs and lemon. Chives would be nice too.

@Zeph
Go for it! Butter is a great base for any flavor.

I love balsamic vinegar on green veggies like zucchini and broccoli. Tahini goes really well with chickpeas, but I’m not sure about it on potatoes or zucchini.

Oh yes, I love tahini!

@Zeph
Tahini is amazing! It’s perfect for chickpeas and sweet potatoes. I bet it would be great on other veggies too.

I make a green goddess sauce using whatever herbs, greens, and nuts I have, plus some acid (like lemon or vinegar), nutritional yeast, and seasoning. I just throw everything in a blender and adjust it to taste. My last batch had green onions, some wilting cilantro, frozen spinach, cashews, soy yogurt, lemon, apple cider vinegar, nutritional yeast, garlic, dried dill, and salt.

@Jalen
I didn’t think of using yogurt, that sounds yummy!

Yeah! Yogurt with chili crisp or hot sauce and lime is also great.

Just olive oil and lemon is so simple but delicious! You can also try nutritional yeast, hot sauce, sriracha, or vegan Caesar dressing.

Have you thought about store-bought tzatziki or other Mediterranean sauces? Might be worth checking out what vegan bottled sauces the store has to save some time.

I’m trying to see what I can easily make myself :slight_smile:

@Zeph
Oops, I forgot I was in a vegan recipe forum, haha!

You could make pesto with any kind of leafy herb, some nuts, lemon juice, salt, and pepper. Or maybe try chimichurri or romesco?

Oh yes, I love pesto! I have tons of spinach to use instead of basil.

Try mixing two tablespoons of tahini with the juice of half a lemon, a teaspoon of maple syrup, salt, and water until it’s the consistency you like. It’s great on lots of vegetables.

Spicy Peanut/Hoisin Sauce

Take a couple of big spoonfuls of peanut butter in a bowl. Add a little less than half that amount of hoisin sauce. Stir it together. Add sriracha to taste, then thin it with water. You can add freshly grated garlic or ginger if you want. This sauce is awesome for dipping or drizzling. It’s great on soba or rice noodles with cucumber, shredded carrots, and cold tofu.
