Vegan has made me a bad cook 🧑‍🍳

A vegan diet has spoiled me.

I just realized I can never go back to a meat based diet, because I would 100% end up poisoning myself.

Not that I would want to anyway, but I have gotten so used to being able to just throw a vegan sausage into the microwave and just haphazardly warm it. Sometimes when one doesn’t cook completely through, I just go “meh, I’m too lazy to go reheat it”. And eat it.

Like, I could never safety do that with a meat. I have been spoiled. Completely spoiled. I definitely shouldn’t be allowed to cook anything non vegan, because that chicken is definitely coming out raw in the middle.

Well said. Conversely, it’s improved my cooking skills beyond anything I could have imagined :joy:

Yes, I no longer believe in expiration dates :sob: I still eat vegan food if it doesn’t smell or look horrible!

Lol when I posted something similar to this everyone hated on me LOL. I’m the same. I eat anything if it smells and looks fine, if it looks sus it’s out. I’m a very clean person but I don’t follow food safety in the sense that I will eat 3 day old rice, I will cut around the weird bits of vegetables and cook them and eat them lol, if there’s no mold and it smells ok, it’s getting cooked and eaten or it’s getting frozen to use at a later time. I also hate food waste, this one time I had a bag of spinach going off but I could tell some of it was fine. So I spent 10 mins picking out the slimy bits, even tearing some pieces that were only slightly slimy, then rinsing the good parts and mixing those into pasta sauce. Tasted fine & I’m alive

I laugh, I can’t relate. I spent a long time working in the food industry as a prep/line cook. I have a permanent tattoo of how to cook almost anything within my skull, hehe. Furthermore, not everything vegan is immediately palatable, but you’re getting there!

This is hilarious, haha. We will shrug and say “it’s just plants” after leaving a burger out for a day and a half :woman_shrugging: haven’t become sick yet.

You are aware that you can consume precooked sausages without reheating them, correct? Vegans are nevertheless susceptible to bacteria that are particular to grains.

To be honest, eating reheated rice makes it 100 times easier to become sick from meat, but don’t be too carefree—the bacteria in rice is nasty.

This is really risky. cuisine that is vegan, especially processed vegan cuisine, is full of viruses.

I seem to recall that some beans are harmful when raw. I’m relieved that the supermarket only sells precooked ones so I never have to worry about it.

For me, going vegan has had the opposite effect. I love to try new things and I enjoy cooking a lot more than I used to when I ate meat. However, because vegan meat substitutes are so costly and harmful, I also don’t actually eat them. Have you attempted to cook anything else?

Completely experienced it Even after over two years, I’m still terrible. Takeout is pricey, and I’ll never be able to eat meat again. I’ve prepared some excellent dishes, but at the end of the day, the decent ones taste better. My cooking has gone from lousy to worse since my oven broke last month. I advise having a functional oven and persevering until things get better. The thing about meat is that you have to make sure you cook it, unlike vegetables, which is like relearning things :joy::joy:. It’s like Billy Madison going back to school as an adult.
