I just saw a post scrolling through Reddit of a pig that had been tied to a gas station post during the hurricane in Florida. Obviously this is cruel and upsetting. People in the comments are so enraged and discussing how cruel it is to leave a helpless animal to die. I cannot help but scroll through the comments and wonder how many of these people eat pig flesh on the daily. Do they not realize the cruelty of the food they eat everyday?
Meat eaters believe that the meat on their plate comes from farms that ‘ethically farm and butcher’ their particular food, as evidenced by debate videos on YouTube. They also believe that any videos or evidence someone presents them with is merely an isolated incident and does not represent the food they eat.
Yes, I did notice the same post. It’s already absurd that people will post death threats and receive a ton of likes when someone locks up a dog, but they still seem to think factory farming is acceptable in some way. However, is tying up a farm animal the same thing? It’s crazy how dissonant the thoughts are.
Most of them, I can assure you, do. Similar to what happens when a truck crashes or catches fire while being driven to the slaughterhouse, people get furious.
On social media, everyone criticizes the animals for being tethered—just before they consume cheeseburgers. It’s crazy.
They’re just mad that the bacon will be too soggy. Animals don’t matter to these sadists; to them, an animal’s life or death is completely meaningless.
This specific pig belonged to a person claiming to be “vegan,” and it was scheduled for slaughter following the hurricane in order to feed the “vegan’s” carnivorous companion animals.
That’s their strong inclination to steer clear of cognitive dissonance. Most of them don’t have any experiences at all.
Is it possible for us to receive an automated mod reply for these postings that defines “cognitive dissonance”?
In another piece, the author expresses genuine distress over the absence of cognitive dissonance that they encounter.
I was wondering the same thing when I saw the exact same post and went through the comments. I fail to understand.
That’s what’s known as hypocrisy. A person experiences cognitive dissonance when they become aware of their hypocrisy.
