Does Wicked remind anyone else of how vegans are treated?

I know the movie, musical, or story can apply to a lot of things, but for me, it reminds me of how vegans are treated. Meat-eaters often see vegans as arrogant or self-righteous, even though all we want is to reduce suffering. It feels like we’re seen as ‘wicked’ for questioning the way things are, for challenging something they don’t want to question themselves. Sometimes it feels like they want to drown us in hate to make us give up and think our efforts are pointless.

Also, the movie literally shows speciesism by portraying animals in cages as a terrible thing. How is no one talking about this? I was watching and thought, ‘Finally! Someone is questioning animal cruelty in a big, mainstream way!’

I work at a vegan meal service, and our chef said Wicked is secretly a vegan movie. Now I have to watch it!

You know another movie with a vegan vibe? Super 8 by JJ Abrams.

Yeah, it’s mostly a love letter to amateur filmmaking, but hear me out—spoilers:

!The alien eats people. Scientists and the government want to capture and cage it for experiments. The kids figure out the solution by connecting with the alien: they don’t want to be caged, and humans don’t want to be eaten. Both sides realize they’re in the wrong.!<

It’s not something you see in most mainstream movies, but it felt like a clear vegan message to me.

Can you imagine a world where animals can’t talk and are locked in cages? Feels way too real.

I’d rather be called wicked and mocked than just go along with everything wrong in the world. :green_heart:

I had the same thought watching it! It’s like low-key vegan propaganda. She’s the only one who cares about the animals being treated horribly.
