Best Mac and Cheese Recipes for Xmas... What Do You Recommend?

I want to make mac and cheese for Christmas, but there are so many recipes out there! I’m hoping to find one that’s as close to the traditional version as possible. I’m not looking for healthy options, and I’m totally fine with using processed cheese! No cashews, please. Thanks in advance!

I love Nora’s recipes, they’re always so tasty! This one is creamy, not a baked one with breadcrumbs.

Love Nora! Thanks for sharing this!

I just don’t get why mac and cheese is such a big deal. Coming from outside North America, it just seems like pasta with cheesy sauce. It’s not fancy or anything special. Is it just because it’s a comfort food, maybe tied to childhood memories? It gets served at Thanksgiving and Christmas, but how did it become a holiday dish? The boxed stuff is cheap junk food, so why is it such a holiday staple?

@Pat
Mac and cheese is amazing, you might have only tried the bad versions. Not everything needs to be fancy to be good. Plus, there’s a big difference between box mac and cheese and homemade. Here in Thailand, a fusion version called Tom Yum Vegan Mac and Cheese is really popular and it’s fantastic. So, it’s not just a basic dish—there’s something special about it. It’s a great video. I wish there was a whole channel dedicated to vegan food history.

That’s a great idea! I’d love to see something like that.

I’m all about comfort food for the holidays! And it seems like you’ve only had boxed versions. Trust me, if you ever tried real mac and cheese from the States, it would blow your mind!

I’ve been vegan for 15 years and while I love a cheesy mac made with nooch, this recipe is the closest to the creamy, unhealthy non-vegan mac. It’s so delicious, gooey, and flavorful. Check it out: Classic Baked Vegan Mac 'N' Cheese - Eat Figs, Not Pigs

This recipe looks amazing, thank you so much!

Why not try a butternut squash, broccoli, and penne combo instead?

Here’s a simple recipe that doesn’t use fake cheese and tastes better than the original. Just cashews, carrots, onions, and some nutritional yeast: https://youtu.be/ZCK6RZH2fgI?si=e2ntgG3e6QTtHn2F

It’s by far the best! No nooch, just good, processed cheesy flavor. It does use cashews to make cashew milk, but you can easily swap that with another creamy plant-based milk. Also, I recommend letting it sit in the fridge for a few hours before baking.
