Anyone have milk ideas for hot chocolate?

I made some really tasty hot chocolate using dark chocolate and cashew milk. But my wife has a mild nut allergy, and the milk didn’t sit well with her either. I tried coconut milk, but it just doesn’t taste as good. Does anyone know a good milk alternative that’s not nut-based, like cashews or almonds?

Have you tried oat milk? The barista-style ones are especially creamy and neutral, much better than coconut.

Oat milk works perfectly.

Oat milk is such a lifesaver for this kind of stuff.

You could try making it with hot water, like how some people do coffee, and then add a bit of a rich creamer or oat milk for that creamy touch.

Sunflower milk or pea milk are good options! I avoid coconut and nut-based milks for ethical reasons too.

I usually make mine with mostly water, add a little oat milk, and top it off with frothed oat milk for a creamy texture. I’ve also seen a soy-based whipping cream by Silk that might work, but I haven’t tried it yet.

Trader Joe’s has a vegan whipping cream too! It tastes so much like dairy that my non-vegan parents were convinced I went back to regular milk.

What about soy milk? I use it for almost everything, including hot chocolate.

My go-to is unsweetened soy milk with a splash of Country Crock’s plant-based heavy whipping cream. It’s neutral enough to work for sweet or savory recipes, and it makes hot chocolate super creamy!

Soy or oat milk are my favorites. If you want it even richer, you can add a little cornstarch to thicken it. A pinch of salt and some cinnamon also make it extra good.

I switched up a crockpot hot chocolate recipe by using sweetened condensed coconut milk, oat milk, and some plant cream. It turned out great.

Go for full-fat Oatly oat milk if you want it really creamy. It’s my favorite for hot chocolate.

Ripple milk is fantastic. It’s made from pea protein and has a super creamy texture.

I’ve been loving Chobani oat milk lately. It works so well for hot drinks.

I use soy milk for my hot chocolate most of the time, but oat milk is great too.

I mix chia seeds and cocoa powder in a mug with a little water, heat it up, and then add soy milk. It thickens nicely and tastes amazing.

About the coconut milk, I’ve found that full-fat coconut cream has less of a coconut taste compared to regular coconut milk.

Chobani’s extra creamy oat milk is perfect for hot chocolate.

Vanilla Silk soy milk is my favorite, but I usually go with oat milk from Costco because it’s more budget-friendly. Both are good because they don’t have strong added flavors.

Sometimes I use Orgain creamy chocolate fudge protein powder mixed with hot water. It’s different but really good.
