This may sound silly, but I just can’t stand mushrooms! The smell, the texture - none of it works for me. I know tofu and Beyond Meat can replace meat, but so many veggie dishes still sneak in mushrooms! Do any of you have tips on recipes or meat substitutes that don’t involve mushrooms? Thanks for any suggestions!
For some great protein options, try all the different types of beans and legumes! Chickpeas, lentils, quinoa, black beans – they’re all great substitutes.

Look into Italian, Indian, Turkish, and Lebanese vegetarian cookbooks – they have tons of mushroom-free recipes! So many delicious options to try without needing mushrooms at all.
Legumes like lentils are a great option if you enjoy them. They’re really filling and work well in many recipes!
Try TVP mince or meat slices. They’re pretty common in Asian grocery stores.
If you’re looking for other options, there are lots of soy and pea protein choices too. We have brands like MEET, vEEF, and V2. If you’re in the UK, Quorn makes a good meat alternative, and Fry’s from South Africa is tasty!

Ethiopian misir wat is great if you can find berbere spice, and I like to have it with flatbread. And lots of fake meats, like meatballs and chicken alternatives, are really good now – you could try them with Japanese curry!
