I’m a big fan of Amy’s frozen dinners—they’re quick, easy, and all vegetarian, which I love. I usually add a little salad on the side. I like the lasagna, the Thai noodles, and the burritos. But are these really nutritious meals? Cooking for one isn’t something I do often, and these are convenient since my partner isn’t interested. They’re also available everywhere I shop. I bought a few vegan cookbooks, but they seem like too much effort just for myself. Just looking for some validation… anyone else relying on these?
Have you looked at the labels? They’ll tell you the protein, calories, and fat in each meal.
What do you mean by nutritious? I find them a bit low on calories and protein, personally, so I only keep a few around for emergencies. Not sure they’re much different nutrition-wise from other frozen options.
@Shannon
Yep, same here. I use them when I run out of fresh stuff and maybe pair them with a protein shake at lunch. Handy to have around!
Been a vegetarian all my life, and Amy’s has always been my go-to when I don’t feel like cooking.
They’re quite high in sodium. I have high blood pressure, so I avoid most of them. There is a low-sodium Mexican casserole option, though—I may check if my local store has it back in stock.
Did you know they had issues with union-busting?

Yeah, but the workers eventually got the contract they were after, and the boycott is over now.

Good to know, thanks!
Amy’s frozen meals are my favorite! Good mix of protein and fiber, and super tasty too.

Same here! I often add tofu cubes or a scrambled egg for extra protein. A little chili crisp and peanut butter make the Thai noodles even better!
The sodium can be high, just so you know. Otherwise, I think they’re decent—I often add some extra veggies or protein.

How are they decent if you have to add more to them?
@Bao
Not everyone’s looking for the same thing in a meal. What’s decent to one person might not be perfect for another.
@Bao
I work late shifts sometimes, and I don’t have time to make a meal. A little salad mix and pre-seasoned tofu make it feel like a good meal. Not everyone has the time to cook from scratch.

Haha, thanks! You’re awesome.
Stopped buying their frozen meals since they’ve gotten pricier. I do still get their canned chili and refried beans when on sale, though.

Yeah, prices really shot up! Used to buy a few, but now I only get one if I really need it that week.

I think Chilli Man’s vegetarian option tastes way better, personally.
